The evening of September 14, 2021, Del Rio Police Department officers responded to a walk-in call referencing threats to cause serious bodily injury or death to a female by a local known male. A report for the incident was completed and officers maintained a constant patrol by at the female’s residence throughout the evening to ensure her safety as the investigation started.
Officers also responded to a burglary of a vehicle reported at the 1500 block of Avenue B, where the victim provided the suspect’s vehicle description matching the vehicle of the same suspect referenced in the threat incident.
At about 10 p.m., as officers patrolled the city, the suspect’s vehicle was located near the area of South Bedell and East De La Rosa Street. An officer initiated a traffic stop but the vehicle failed to stop for police.
A vehicle pursuit began leading police to the area of Ogden, Griner, Academy, and Magnolia Streets. It was near Magnolia Street where the driver of the vehicle shot at least six times toward officers. The vehicle pursuit continued eastbound towards Dr. Fermin Calderon Boulevard.
The driver proceeded to the area of the 400 block of West Gutierrez Street where he shot at the residence. The driver proceeded to drive to the 400 block of Arteaga Street where he also shot at a residence and a stationary vehicle. Both homes were damaged along with one vehicle. No injuries to civilians were reported. Detectives continue to canvas the neighborhoods to ensure no other damages were caused.
The suspect’s vehicle proceeded to drive southbound on Dr. Fermin Calderon Street. As soon as the vehicle passed the city limits, Texas Department of Public Safety Highway Patrol took lead of the vehicle pursuit. Texas DPS was able to execute a pit maneuver which rendered the suspect’s vehicle to become inoperable near the area of South US Highway 277 and the Sycamore Creek Bridge. A felony stop was performed by both agencies, and the driver was taken into custody with no further incident.

Patrol officers arrested and charged the male identified as Roque Martinez, 39 years of age, with evading arrest with a motor vehicle, a State Jail Felony and two counts of Attempted Capital Murder, a 1st Degree Felony.
The Del Rio Police Department Criminal Investigation Division is actively working the scenes where shots were fired by the suspect. There were no reported injuries.
No officers were injured and at least one patrol unit has visible damage. Patrol units and the suspect’s vehicle are currently being processed at the Del Rio Police Department Evidence Division.
