A new medical clinic focusing on cardiology and orthopedic medicine will open inside Val Verde Regional Medical Center Thursday.

The opening of the new clinic will be marked with a ribbon cutting ceremony at the hospital, 801 N. Bedell Ave., at 10 a.m. Thursday and it will be held at the hospital’s main entrance.

Erin Albritton, manager of public relations and marketing at VVRMC, said the clinic’s physicians are: Dr. Stephen Korte and Dr. Imad Alwan who are supported by Cynthia Hernandez, acute nurse practitioner on the cardiology side. The orthopedics side is lead by Dr. Jonathan Hoskins.

“This is going to improve access to cardiology care for interventional and general cardiology,” said VVRMC Chief Executive Officer Jorge Jurado.

Albritton said VVRMC did not have a “sports doctor,” and said having Hoskins’ specialties would be a new and welcome addition to the staff.

“This will enable us to manage orthopedic care here without transferring patients out of town,” Jurado said.

During the regular hospital board meeting July 31, Jurado said Texas Rep. Eddie Morales (D-Eagle Pass) plans to be at the ribbon cutting ceremony. Jurado also said Mayor Al Arreola and County Judge Lewis G. Owens Jr. are expected at the event, along with members of Laughlin Air Force Base, the Del Rio Chamber of Commerce and the Del Rio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

The ceremony will be free and open to the public.
