NEWS — Warrant violation leads to narcotics arrest

On January 29th, 2025 at 3:18 a.m. the Del Rio Police Department responded to the area of the 200 block of E. 2nd Street for a suspicious male subject inside private property. Upon arrival police located the male and conducted a warrant inquiry.

Police discovered the male subject identified as Richard Anthony Pohl; 21 years of age had an active arrest warrant with Val Verde County for the offense of Evading Arrest or Detention. The warrant was confirmed with the issuing agency, and the male was arrested for such warrant. During a search, the officer located a baggie containing white powdery substance inside Pohl’s pant pocket. Pohl was placed under arrest for the offense of Possession of Controlled Substance 1/1-B > =4G < 200G. Pohl was transported to the police station for processing. Once at the police station the substance was field tested yielding positive for cocaine, weighing 13.5 grams.

At approximately 7:42 a.m., Police responded to a second call in the same area regarding a possible Burglary to a vehicle. Upon arrival, police discovered a vehicle with a shattered window and a dent near the driver’s door. A backpack was located at the scene. Police processed the scene and upon searching the backpack, a payroll check made out to the name of Richard Anthony Pohl was located inside from a local bar.  The victim was unable to find any missing items from the interior of the vehicle, but estimated the damage caused to the vehicle between $750.00- $2,500.00

While officers canvassed the area, a second damage vehicle was located within the vicinity, the vehicle had a shattered window. Upon processing the vehicle, a cap with the logo of the local bar from the payroll check was located inside with red stains believed to be blood. The vehicle was ransacked but no items were missing. Damage estimate is pending.

Police returned to the police station and interviewed Pohl, who claimed ownership to the backpack and contents and had fresh, superficial lacerations to his hands.

Pohl was then arrested for Criminal Mischief >=$750.00 < $2,500.00 for the damage caused to the first vehicle. Additional charges will be filed for the second damage vehicle.
