A 48-year-old woman has died after she was shot twice at her home this morning, and sheriff’s office investigators are on the hunt for her killer.
Val Verde County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Waylon Bullard has identified the dead woman as Mirosalva Martinez.
“Around 10:30 this morning, we received a 9-1-1 call about shots fired in a neighborhood in the Cienegas Terrace area of the county,” Bullard told the 830 Times.
The Cienegas Terrace colonia lies west of the Del Rio city limits.
Bullard confirmed deputies were sent to a residence at 142 Fir Street for the call.
“When we arrived, we administered first aid to a woman found there. An ambulance arrived and continued to administer emergency medical attention. She was taken to the hospital, and she passed away at the hospital,” Bullard said.
Bullard said the woman had been shot twice.
The chief said as of noon today, no one has been taken into custody in connection with the fatal shooting, and the incident remains under investigation.
