OBITUARY – Fernando Aguirre Bustamante

Fernando Aguirre Bustamante, 71, of San Antonio, TX, died peacefully at his home on September 5, 2022.
Born November 3, 1950 to the late Manuel and Lupe Aguirre Bustamante, Fernando was raised in Asherton, TX.
Growing up as a member of the National FFA Organization, Fernando had dreams of growing a garden. Growing up, he worked on farms throughout Texas, Minnesota, and North Dakota, before beginning a long career at H-E-B Grocery Company, LP. Fernando was dedicated to his job as the store manager of the Del Rio, TX location and retired from H-E-B after nearly 33 years. Many in Del Rio will remember Fernando as a friendly and welcoming face, always laughing and shaking hands with everyone, especially at the store. After his retirement in 2010, Fernando moved to San Antonio, TX, and spent a few years as a bus driver for the Northside Independent School District.
Fernando enjoyed barbequing after Mass every Sunday. He also liked to visit thrift shops, sift through rummage sales and take the occasional bus trip to the casino with friends. Fernando cherished time spent with his children and grandchildren and was known to call loved ones early on their birthdays.
Fernando’s family remembers him as someone who always made time to be friendly and help in any way he could. He’d often say, “Trata a las demás como quieres que te traten a ti,” or treat others as you want to be treated.
Fernando is survived by three siblings: Amanda Rios of San Antonio, TX; Tammy Gonzales of Uvalde, TX; and Manuel Bustamante, Jr. of Victoria, TX; two children: Rodney Bustamante and wife Marisol of Austin, TX; Roxie Freeman and husband Howard Freeman III of San Antonio, TX; and five grandchildren: Mireia, Raquel and Rebekah Bustamante, and Howard IV and Andrew Freeman. He is joined in Heaven with his parents, grandparents and siblings Janie, Alex and Avelinda Bustamante.
A memorial service is set for November 5, 10:00AM, at Asherton Baptist Church in Asherton, TX.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Asherton Baptist Church, 1002 Forest St, Asherton, TX, 78827, care of Fernando Bustamante.
