With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Mary Helen Garza, who left this world on February 12, 2025. She was born in Corpus Christi, Texas, to Magdeleno and Maria Rodriguez and was the eldest of their eight children.
A leader in her family, Mary Helen became the first to earn a college degree when she graduated from Del Mar as a Registered Nurse in 1985. Throughout her decades long career, she dedicated her life to helping others and touched countless lives both in Corpus Christi and Del Rio, TX.
Mary Helen was a devoted mother to her three children, Daniel, Sandy (Archie), and Michelle. She poured her heart into raising them with love, wisdom, and a strong work ethic. “You can do anything you want in this life, if you’re willing to work for it,” she often said. She was also blessed with 9 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Mom was truly a beautiful soul. She was intelligent and generous, loving and compassionate, all qualities that made her a wonderful nurse and parent. She laughed easily and was always the first person to the rescue.
Mom, you were our first teacher and our first best-friend.
Your accomplishments raised us up and inspired us and your example always shone a light on our path.
You will always be our one and only hero and we will miss you with every breath until we see you again.

A celebration of Mary Helen’s life was held on Thursday, February 12th at 1:00 p.m. at Maxwell Dunne’s Funeral Home on Yorktown.
