Rosa G. Caldera, age 86, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on August 23, 2026.
Rosie to her friends and family was born on August 30, 1939, in Robstown, Texas, to the late Mercedes and Paula (Acuna) Garza. She grew up in San Antonio, graduating from Lanier High School before moving to Big Spring for a short time. She later lived in Del Rio for 35 years, where she made many wonderful friends. Rosie eventually returned to San Antonio, where she continued to build lasting friendships. She was the beloved wife of the late Jose A. Caldera, with whom she shared 59 beautiful years of marriage.
A woman of profound faith and community spirit, Rosie was a dedicated member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church. She generously gave her time to the Guadalupanas, the Altar Society, the Sewing Circle (also with Blessed Sacrament), and the Fabulous Fifties social club. Her passions included sewing, quilting, dancing, listening to music, antiquing, gardening, and cooking, but her greatest joy was always her family. Her handmade quilts were highly cherished gifts.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and four of her siblings: Lucy, Tony, Virgie, and Frances.
Rosie’s legacy lives on through her three surviving children: Jose, Jr. (Sara), Sophie (Steve), and James (Christina) and step-daughter Inez (Eddie). She is also survived by her cherished sister, Susie; her seven grandchildren, Elizabeth, Jose III, Veronica, Stevie Rae, Kristen, Katie, and Tisa; her seven great-grandchildren, Rosalee, Charlotte, Elijah, Aubrey, August, Roman, and Mateo; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
