DRLaughs press release
Alex Reymundo, who will be hitting the Ramada Grand Ballroom’s stage Sunday night, is many things.
Of course, he’s a stand-up comedian with two one-hour specials, toured the country with a Who’s Who of America’s top stand-up comics and is one of the original Latin Kings of Comedy.
He’s a producer extraordinaire, having produced a number of network comedy specials.
He’s also a businessman who hustles his own line of tequila, Number Juan Tequila, with touring partner and a man he calls his brother Ron White.
“I love doing all these things, I love creating this beautiful tequila, I love sharing my tequila, talking about my tequila,” he said.
“This is easy,” Reymundo said, referring to working 18-hour days as he does stand up comedy, produces specials and running a tequila company that is sold in 34 states. “It was hard for my mom and dad to come to a brand new nation with six kids in tow and $4 in their pockets…I do this because we move forward and we love our children and we want to give them a better life.”
He fondly remembers Del Rio 10 years ago because it was the first time his 11-year-old son heard him perform.
“I was letting him see what the road was like and I have pictures
of him here in the radio station with the headphones on and all of this other stuff that was a big deal to an 11-year-old,” he said.
So, when show night came, he set his son up on the side of the Paul Poag stage in a chair so they could keep an eye on each other.
“He’s seen me perform on television, but we wouldn’t turn the volume up,” Reymundo said.
He told his son, “You’re gonna hear me speak in ways that you’ve never heard me speak, you’re going to hear me say things about you, your mother and your sister that you’ve never heard, but you gotta sit there and take it, because they’re all jokes, and it’s in the interest of everyone laughing.”
So, throughout the show Reymundo was watching his son in his peripheral vision. “He was laughing, he loved the show, and it happened right here in Del Rio,” he said. “That meant so much to me that he loved it.” His son loved his show and being on the road, he started his own recording career with him traveling the roads and his music can be found on all streaming platforms under the name Reymundo. His daughter Mariah Reymundo has also launched a musical career and can be heard on all streaming platforms as well.
Dad’s tequila company has mushroomed and Reymundo has continued doing what he loves, performing stand-up comedy and he’s returning to Del Rio 10 years later. Now, he’s in a bus with Number Juan Tequila on the sides.
The show is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. Sunday and tickets are available at Pay Less Liquors, Ramada Inn and online at www.Alexcomedy.com
