A cornerstone of Del Rio’s late-night weekend scene may have come to an end.
Doc Holliday’s, a nightclub located at 202 E. Gibbs St., announced on Facebook late Monday afternoon that the establishment will be closing down. The bar had been under ownership of Jose Eduardo Ramon for the past 13 years.
The bar was known for its big dance floor, but had hosted everything from Chamber mixers to senatorial candidates.
The bar recently posted this to their FB Page:
“TO OUR FAITHFUL AND LOYAL CUSTOMERS FOR THE PART 13 YEARS:
AFTER MUCH REFLECTION AND CONSIDERATION , WE HAVE COME TO THE DIFFICULT DECISION TO CLOSE DOWN DOC HOLLIDAY’S. THIS DOES NOT COME LIGHTLY, IT COMES WITH A DEEP SENSE OF SADNESS BECAUSE WE FELT THROUGH THE YEARS THE GOOD TIMES, ENJOYMENT AND GREAT VIBES TRANSMITTED FROM OUR WONDERFUL GUESTS AND THEIR VISITING FRIENDS. HOWEVER, THERE IS ALWAYS A HANDFUL OF UNDESIRABLE AND PROBLEMATIC PEOPLE THAT HAVE NO RESPECT FOR OUR VENUE AND OUR MANY CUSTOMERS. SO BEFORE PUTTING A CUSTOMER OR EMPLOYEE AT ANY RISK, WE DECIDED TO MAKE A PAUSE AND ALLOW SOME TIME TO REFLECT ON THE FUTURE OF DOCS.
THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF OUR HEARTS FOR BEING SUCH AMAZING PATRONS, YOUR LOYALTY AND FRIENDSHIP HAVE BEEN TRULY UNFORGETTABLE!
The facility has been offered by several real estate agents and most recently for $1.975 million and they have offered it for rent for $8,500 per month. The real estate listing has it listed at 6,476 square feet and the lot is nearly one acre.
According to property records on the Val Verde County Appraisal District website, previous owners of the facility were Carl and Dora Bixler; Kenneth Petty and Roy Martin were the owners before the Ramon family bought it in 2006.
Ramon was unavailable for comment but a family member said reopening was a possibility in the future.
