Update — 8 a.m. A group is meeting by the Moore Park Pool at 9 a.m. to help search for Mr. Meza.
Law enforcement agencies and private citizens are working hard to find an 86-year-old man who wandered from his San Felipe home.
Margarito Meza, who will hopefully celebrate his 87th birthday Sept. 15, was last seen near his home on the 400 block of East Rodriguez St around 9 p.m. Wednesday night. His caregiver reported him missing Thursday morning.
Fred Knoll, chief of the Del Rio Police Department, said the Del Rio Police Department is being helped by the Val Verde County Sheriff’s Department, Border Patrol and the State Police, who issued a silver alert for him.
Knoll said this wasn’t Meza’s first time missing. “According to the information I am receiving he has gone missing before due to his mental health. However, he is usually found on the east side of town but unfortunately not today.”
Del Rio residents are rolling out, trying to help find their neighbor on one of the coldest, wettest 24 hours Del Rio has had in six months. “We have searched for him for about an hour and we are going to keep going,” said Mike Saluda, after Meza had been missing for 23 hours. “We are from the neighborhood and we are familiar with the area so we figured we could be of some assistance. We have talked to police and talked to people who are also walking and searching for him but unfortunately, there are no leads.”
Anyone with any information is asked to call the Del Rio Police Department at 830-774-2711.
