Vice Chair for Public Education and Rep. Eddie Morales, to discuss the need to push for legislation that would
address increasing the basic allotment and provide for a cost-of-living increase for teachers.
Rep. Bernal welcomed the district’s representatives and listened to the issues facing
SFDRCISD, namely budget shortfalls which have led to program reductions since last
summer. Rep. Bernal shared several bills (which he has authored) and would be discussed
with the House of Representative this week. “These bills could provide some relief, but the
key is that it needs to get passed both by the House and the Senate,” explained Rep. Bernal.
Board President Raymond Meza thanked Rep. Bernal and Rep. Morales for taking the time
to listen to the District’s issues.
The House Committee on Public Education is scheduled for a formal meeting over
HB2, relating to public education and public-school finance.
