SFDRCISD News Release — Over the past few days, SFDRCISD principals and staff have reached out to parents to consider a temporary switch to online instruction due the current spike in COVID-19 cases. By the end of the school day today, parents overwhelmingly responded and opted to temporarily swap their child’s instruction to online learning. SFDRCISD wishes to express our most sincere gratitude to every parent that was able to cooperate.
Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Carlos Rios, explained, “We are so grateful for the cooperation and response by our SFDR parents. By providing this option to the parents, we were
able to provide a solution for them that provides flexibility and immediately addresses the safety for their children, their families, and others in the community. Because of the overwhelming support, there is no immediate need close any specific campus; and there is no risk in having to make up days at the end of the school year.” Dr. Rios added that “our SFDRCISD staff will continue to monitor COVID-19 cases and keep the community informed of any developments.”
In the secondary grades, 1,763 students are currently assigned to attend school face-to-face. Today, 773 students or 43%, have changed to online instruction. In the elementary grades, 1,673 students attend classes in person. Today, 994 students, or 59% of the students swapped to online instruction. Overall, schools across the District had 51% less children attending in person.
The District continues to stand by ready to serve children whose parents cannot support online instruction. Any student opting to remain in face-to-face instruction should simply return to the same school and the same classroom they attended prior to the winter holiday.
