Tigerettes pride will be on display at this year’s Class 2A State cross country race.
Brackett High School junior Anna Lewis qualified for the state meet after her performance at Monday’s Region IV, Class 2A Girls Cross Country race in Corpus Christi.
Lewis finished 11th overall in a time of 13:26.59, but three runners ahead of her qualified for the state meet with their teams, bumping Lewis into eighth place and lumping her in with the top 10 runners to qualify as individuals.
She will compete at the Class 2A State race Friday, Nov. 4, at 11:40 a.m. at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock.
Freer’s Eleana Campos was the top female runner overall, completing the race in 12:28.52.
Lewis wasn’t the only Brackett girl to compete at the regional meet. Teammate Talia Moses, a senior, also ran, finishing 69th overall in 15:06.47.
Mason was the top team overall on the girls’ side with 87 points. Goldthwaite was second with 99 points followed by Shiner and Johnson City.
Brackett’s varsity boys team also ran at the regional meet, finishing 14th out of 23 teams.
Freshman Jordan Balderas was the top finisher for the Tigers, coming in 47th place in 20:37.84. Freshman Matthew Schwander was 70th in 21:20.50, junior Hayes Bonner was 85th in 22:01.00, junior Cohen Bonner was 127th in 23:56.28, sophomore Santos Buitron was 157th in 26:41.58, sophomore Jeremy Creech was 159th in 27:41.69, and junior Cobey Laub was 161st in 27:51.85.
San Antonio Stacey took first among the teams on the boys’ side. Premont was second, edging third place Santa Maria by one point, and Port Aransas was fourth.
Goldthwaite senior Connor Bartek was the top boys runner in the Class 2A race, finishing the race in 16:14.98.
