It’s on to the Area round of the playoffs for the Del Rio High Fall tennis team.

Behind the strength of the Queens tennis team, Del Rio defeated San Antonio Harlan, 11-5, to win the Bi-District round of the playoffs Monday in Uvalde.

Details regarding Del Rio’s Area round match have not been released.

The win came on the strings of the rackets wielded by the young women on the team. Between the girls singles and girls doubles matches, Del Rio went undefeated, earning three wins in each division.

Andrea Favela continued to show why she was one of the best tennis players in the region, winning her match in straight sets without dropping a game. Her 6-0, 6-0 showing anchored a trio of matches by the Queens that resulted in three straight-set wins. Marian Garcia won her match, 6-2, 6-1; and Alejandra Solar won her match, 6-4, 6-0.

Del Rio’s girls went 3-0 in doubles as well, but all three wins needed to go three sets.

Favela and Garcia won 6-3, 4-6, 10-7. Solar and Dana Mijangos won 1-6, 6-4, 10-6. The Treviño sisters – Reagan and Kennedy – also won, 6-1, 1-6, 10-8.

In boys singles, the Rams went 4-2 overall.

After Del Rio’s number one boys player, Max Camarena, dropped his match without winning a game, 6-0, 6-0, his teammates helped picked up the slack.

William Proffit won 6-4, 6-4; Jose “Pepe” Castañeda won 6-1, 6-3; Ricardo Mejia won, 6-0, 6-4; and Alexander Beattie won a tough three set battle, 6-7(2-7), 6-1, 10-2.

The only other boys singles match Del Rio didn’t win was Roger Montemayor’s 7-5, 6-3 loss.

Del Rio won only one of its three boys doubles matches. Castañeda and Mejia won in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2. Proffit and Camarena lost their match, 6-4, 6-4; and Beattie and Montemayor lost their match, 6-3, 6-4.

Del Rio also dropped its only mixed doubles match as Jacob Moss and Analiz Rodriguez lost in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1.
