Despite coming up short of a trip to state, the future looks bright for the Del Rio High School tennis team.

Freshman Andrea Favela and juniors Kennedy and Reagan Treviño represented the Queen City at the Class 6A, Region IV Tennis Tournament April 27-28 at the Northside Tennis Center in Helotes.

Favela won her first singles match over Sophia DeLeon of Hanna in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1. She won her third straight set by taking the first set from Lauren Tin of Austin Vandegrift, 7-5. However, Tin stormed back and took the next two sets, 6-0, 6-2, to knock Favela out of the tournament.

The Treviño sisters matched up against the duo of Sofia Ruiz and Samantha Medina of San Antonio Warren. Del Rio’s duo couldn’t stop Ruiz and Medina, falling in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3.

Favela and the Treviño sisters aren’t the only weapons Del Rio has coming back next year. William Proffit, who finished fourth in the district in boys singles, returns as well, as does Alejandra Solar, who finished third overall in girls singles in District 30-6A.

Twin sisters Reagan and Kennedy Treviño were the District 30-6A Girls Doubles champions this year. They represented Del Rio at the Class 6A, Region IV Tennis Tournament but were eliminated in the first round. (Courtesy photo, Nolan Pritchard)
