Del Rio will have to wait another year for a shot at a state powerlifting title.
Del Rio High School senior Megan Adams was unable to successfully complete all three of her disciplines at this weekend’s Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association’s State Meet in Corpus Christi.
Competing in the 97-pound weight class, Adams started well with a 235-pound squat. That put her fourth among her competitors, but she did not register a successful attempt in the bench press and was listed in the results as “BO” or “bombed out,” which is the term used when a person fails at every attempt in at least one of the three required lifts.
This was Adams’ first trip to the state competition, and she was Del Rio’s sole representative.
Daniela Maximo of Harlingen South won the 97-pound weight class with a total weight lifted of 705 pounds. She easily out-distanced her closest runner-up, Angelina Zuniga of San Benito, who finished with 635 pounds.
