Del Rio’s Amistad Eagles Purple Reign won one of the largest cheer competitions in the world, bringing home top honors in the 2021 D2 Summit held at Disney ESPN Wide World of Sports Saturday afternoon.
In the competition, the Purple Reign had to come from behind to take top honors with a 96.3 score over teams from throughout the nation after starting in a wild card slot. The wild card slot meant they had to compete an extra round to get into the finals.
The team’s coach, Dee Reavis, posted the following on the Amistad Eagle Facebook page: “It was a crazy year with covid, new friends and so many changes .. but in all these kids never gave up and pushed to be the best … as we had our last practice before leaving , so many emotions … these kids have my heart and I am truly thankful for them letting me be their coach.”
