One week after hosting five Little League tournaments, Del Rio is set to do it again.
The Val Verde County Sports Complex off Frontera Road will host the Little League Texas West Section 3 9-11 Softball and 9-11 Baseball tournaments beginning Tuesday.
Two teams will compete in the softball tournament. Bulverde Little League and Greater Medina Lake/Bandera Little League will meet in a best-of-three softball tournament that begins Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. on the complex’s Field 3.
The teams will also play Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. If both teams each have one loss after the first two games, then the “if necessary” game will be played Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
The baseball tournament begins Tuesday with Uvalde Little League and Western Little League meeting at 7 p.m. on the complex’s Field 1. The late game Tuesday will see McAllister Park Little League take on Del Rio Little League at 9 p.m. on Field 1.
Wednesday, the winner of Uvalde/Western will face the winner of McAllister Park/Del Rio at 7 p.m. The losers of the first day games will meet in the tournament’s first elimination game at 9 p.m., also on Wednesday.
The second elimination game will take place Thursday at 7:30 p.m., and the championship game is scheduled for Friday at 8 p.m.
The “if necessary” game is set for Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
Tournament Director Pat Rodriguez said Del Rio Little League, which is hosting the tournaments, would open the tournament with a reading of names involved in the mass shooting in Uvalde. The league would then host a moment of silence in memory of the deceased.
