A strong group of ladies earned all-district honors for their work during the 2020-21 volleyball season.

A total of nine members of the Del Rio High Queens volleyball team were placed on the District 30-6A All-District athletic and academic teams. Four of the girls pulled double duty, earning honors on both teams.

Leading the way for Del Rio was first teamer Leyra Alzugaray.

One of the Queens’ top all-around players, Alzugaray led the team in kills with 63 and blocks with 48. She was also among the Queens’ leaders in points scored (67), digs (104) and assists (8).

Two Queens were named to the all-district second team – Emily Treviño and Jaleen Perez.

Perez, the Queens’ libero, led the team in digs with 220. She was one of the top scorers for Del Rio, racking up 76 points off serve. She was also among the team leaders in kills (18) and assist (11).

Much like Alzugaray, Treviño was an active member of the Queens squad, demonstrating her ability whether Del Rio was serving or trying to break the opposition’s serve.

Treviño led the Queens with 109 points scored and led the team in assists with 123. She also had 44 kills, 20 blocks and 118 digs.

Two Queens were also named as all-district honorable mentions – Kailani Goodspeed and Amber Raabe.

Goodspeed was one of Del Rio’s top servers, earning 105 points. She also had 158 digs, 26 kills and 23 assists.

Raabe helped man the Queens’ front line. She had 43 digs, 37 kills, 22 blocks and 11 points scored.

Earning a spot on the district’s all-academic team were Celeste Montes, Perez, Goodspeed, Treviño, Raabe, Karime Ramirez, Tatum Koehler and Ashley Mojica. To be named the academic team, a player must have maintained a grade average of 95 or better throughout the season.
