returned as a professional in P4P Entertainment’s takeover of Sames Auto Arena Saturday night.

Martinez made the most against his opponent, Laredo’s Jaime Guevara, in his own backyard. He took down Guevara and stayed perfect in his professional career as he pushed his overall record to 4-0. In the second round Martinez delivered a series of hard shots that Guevara could not respond to, forcing referee Lee Rogers to stop the fight at the 2:05 mark.

“I love Laredo, I have been here a couple of times throughout the amateurs and nothing but the best here,” Martinez said. “I don’t care about not being the favorite, I just come here to do my job and get the win.”

Martinez dominated Guevara from the opening bell as he utilized his experience over his opponent who was making his professional debut. He worked every corner and never let up as Guevara was constantly on the ropes as Martinez delivered a series of punches that he had a hard time recovering from.

“I was just comfortable out there,” Martinez said. “My experience fighting and being in a world class gym, around a bunch of world class trainers and world class athletes. Everyday I gain more experience and feel more and more comfortable inside the ring.”

The opening round was easily won by Martinez who looked comfortable in the ring as he consistently backed Guevara into the ropes. Even when Guevara was able to take a breath from the constant badering of Martinez, his punches were deemed ineffective.

“He was a little awkward fighter and I was studying him in the first round,” Martinez said. “Once I got his timing and everything I just let it (hands) go and that is when we got the stoppage.”

After one round of studying his opponent, Martinez did not hold back the second round and really went after Guevara to end the fight in the second round.

Now Martinez has his eye set on staying busy in the ring because he has some lofty goals to accomplish in his boxing career.

“I just want to stay busy,” Martinez said. “I want to be as busy as possible and stay active. I want to rack up more wins on my record and ultimately get my goal of being a multiple time world champion.”
