Del Rio had already clinched a share of the district girls soccer title. Tuesday night, they took the whole thing.
Behind a six-goal barrage, the Del Rio Queens soccer team clinched the District 30-6A girls soccer title outright with a shutout of the Laredo United South Lady Panthers in front of the home fans at Walter Levermann Ram Stadium.
That win, coupled with Laredo Nixon’s 2-1 loss to Laredo United, guaranteed Del Rio would be the district’s number one seed headed into the postseason.
Jadyn Casillas had a pair of goals while teammates Cassandra Ochoa, Giselle Castañeda, Keyla Celedon and Nicole Martiarena each had one goal in the win. Andrea Sauceda, Celedon and Kaylee Hernandez each had an assist as well.
It’s the Queens’ first district championship since 2015 as Del Rio currently sits at 10 wins, 1 draw and no losses with just the regular season finale at Eagle Pass Monday at 7:30 p.m. left.
Del Rio will face San Antonio Harlan, the fourth seed in District 29-6A, in the first round of the playoffs. Details have not yet been released.
The win over United South was Del Rio’s eighth shutout of this district season and third win in a row, all via shutout.
