Del Rio is returning to the Class 6A Softball Playoffs, but they’ll do so carrying a two-game losing streak.

The Queens closed out the regular season Tuesday with a 9-0 loss at Eagle Pass. The win sealed a perfect district record for the Lady Eagles, who had already clinched the district championship.

Eagle Pass held Del Rio to just two hits in the game. Ithalia Ozuna and Naylea Santana each had a hit for the Queens as three Lady Eagles pitchers combined to shut out Del Rio for the second time this season.

Del Rio lost a tough 10-9 game to Laredo United South April 14. Down 10-4 after four innings, the Queens rallied for three runs in the fifth inning and two runs in the seventh inning before coming up just short against the Lady Panthers.

Now the Queens have their sights set on the postseason, but who they’ll play remains up in the air.

Del Rio knows its opponent will come from District 29-6A out of San Antonio. As the number three seed, the Queens will face the number two seed from 29-6A, but there is currently a tie for second place in that district between San Antonio Harlan and San Antonio Holmes. Both teams are 11-4 with one game left to play. Harlan will play Warren on Friday while Holmes will face off against Stevens on Saturday.

To complicate matters, Harlan and Holmes split their regular season series. That means that unless one of the teams wins and one of the teams loses this weekend there’s a chance they could finish the regular season tied.

If Harlan and Holmes finish the regular season with the same district record, then the teams will either play a third game to decide seeding or they could flip a coin to decide the number two and three seeds. That could mean Del Rio might not know its Bi-District round opponent until next week.
