The 830 Times
In their season debut, Del Rio’s Queens track and field team went out and showed why they should be a force in District 30-6A this season.
The Queens varsity and junior varsity teams each won their divisions at this year’s Queen City Relays, held Feb. 18 inside and around Walter Levermann Ram Stadium.
Del Rio took first over four other teams including district competitors Eagle Pass High and Laredo United South. And while some of the teams at the meet had already competed once this season, this was the first meet of the year for Del Rio’s athletes.

100 METERS
Myla Tabora set the tone for the team as she took first in the 100 meters in 13.37 seconds. She would end the day with four first place medals as she also won the long jump and was a part of two relay teams that also captured first.
Four Queens finished in the top six in the varsity 100 meters. Joining Tabora were Karen Palacios, who was second in 14.28; Kayla Williams, who was third in 14.37; and Sierra Horton, who was fourth in 14.38 seconds.
In the junior varsity division, Ashlee Hernandez took first in 14.61 seconds. Del Rio took five of the top six spots as Annaliz Rustad was second in 14.65, Saria Castro was fourth in 15.15, Makayli Manriquez was fifth in 15.17, and Leyna Garcia was sixth in 15.20 seconds.
200 METERS
Ariana Erickson won the 200 meters in 27.23 seconds, outdistancing teammate Horton who was second in 29.14 seconds. Briana Sanchez was fourth in 29.91 seconds.
In the junior varsity division, the young Queens swept all six spots. Addie Weston was first in 29.72 seconds, Castro was second in 30.20, Rustad was third in 30.91, Valeria Galindo was fourth in 31.61, Kayla De Los Angeles was fifth in 31.62, and Brianna Shough was sixth in 31.92 seconds.
400 METERS
Luz Guerra was Del Rio’s top finisher in the 400 meters, taking second in 1:06.75. Cecilia Martinez was third in 1:08.06.
In the junior varsity division, Makayli Manriquez was second in 1:13.34, and Leyna Garcia was fifth in 1:16.47.
800 METERS
Kimberly Gloria was third in 2:35.98 in the varsity race.
1600 METERS
Gloria was third in the 1,600 meters in 6:05.35. Nayeli Cordova was fifth in 6:25.21.
In the junior varsity division, Cassie Martinez took second in 6:32.92. Payton Becker was third in 6:37.19, and Cinthia Rubio was fifth in 6:40.83.
3200 METERS
Cordova took third in the 3,200 meters in 13:46.40. Carlamarina Fuentes was sixth in 14:13.92.
In the junior varsity division, Del Rio placed five runners in the top six. Martinez led the way, taking second in 14:17.51. Rubio was third in 14:41.12, Becker was fourth in 15:16.60, Natalie Cordova was fifth in 15:55.47, and Haley Morales was sixth in 16:04.44.
100-METER HURDLES
Emily Torres won the 100-meter hurdles in 17.47 seconds.
In the junior division, five Queens earned points for Del Rio. Viviana Segura was first in 20.91 seconds, Valeria Ker was third in 22.26 seconds, Isabella Levrie was fourth in 23.26, Perla Rosas was fifth in 24.69, and Brisa Villareal was sixth in 28.38 seconds.
300-METER HURDLES
Torres earned her second first place medal in the 300-meter hurdles, winning the event in 49.25 seconds. Kayla Williams was second in 1:00.11.
In the junior varsity division, Segura claimed her second first place finish as she won in 59.34 seconds. Rosas was second in 1:00.42, Ker was third in 1:01.86, Levrie was fifth in 1:08.97, and Villareal was sixth in 1:11.99.
400-METER RELAYS
Del Rio took first in the 400-meter relays in a time of 51.51 seconds. Tabora, Erickson, Mia Ortiz and Sydney Ballard led the way for Del Rio.
800-METER RELAYS
Del Rio also took first in the 800-meter relays in a time of 1:55.19. The team included Ballard, Briana Sanchez, Tabora and Ortiz.
In the junior varsity division, Del Rio was also first in 2:01.13. The team included Selenee Rangel, Lillian De Lao, Weston, Rebeca Camposano and Alejandra Trujillo.
1600-METER RELAYS
Del Rio took second in the 1,600-meter relays in 4:30.74. The team included Torres, Guerra, Erickson and Gloria.
In the junior varsity division, Del Rio was first in 4:52.05. The team included Weston, Hernandez, De Los Angeles, Galindo, Segura, Levrie and Garcia.
HIGH JUMP
Ballard picked up another first place finish in the high jump as she cleared 4 feet, 10 inches.
LONG JUMP
Tabora took first in the long jump with a leap of 16 feet, 2 inches. Ballard was second at 15 feet, 9 inches, and Marina Jimenez was fourth at 15 feet, 8 inches.
In the junior varsity division, Ashlee Hernandez was sixth after a jump of 12 feet, 1.5 inches.
TRIPLE JUMP
Ballard earned another first in the triple jump as she finished with a leap of 32 feet 2 inches. Jimenez was second at 32 feet.
In the junior varsity division, Galindo took first with a jump of 29 feet. Hernandez was third at 26 feet.
POLE VAULT
Syann Casillas was fifth in the pole vault after clearing the bar at 8 feet.
In the junior varsity division, Amarais DeLeon was third with a height of 7 feet, and Dariela Mijangos was fourth after clearing 6 feet, 6 inches.
DISCUS
Danielle Almanza was sixth in the discus after a throw of 59 feet, 1 inch.
In the junior varsity division, Iliana Montemayor was second after a throw of 65 feet, 1 inch. Alyssa Chavarrria was third after a throw of 59 feet, 4 inches.
SHOT PUT
Almanza took fourth in the shot put with a toss of 29 feet, 8 inches.
