Del Rio may not have come away with the win against San Antonio Cornerstone, but head coach Marisa Soto sees continuing improvement from her squad.
Cornerstone defeated Del Rio, 93-33 Saturday in San Antonio. The home team took a 32-9 lead in the first quarter and rolled from there, punctuating the win by holding the Queens to two points in the fourth quarter.
“(Cornerstone) is a really good team. I felt we did some really good things and played hard,” Soto said.
None of the Queens scored in double figures. Karolina Alderete led the team with seven points. Marina Jimenez had six points, Nelly Robles had five points, Joselyn Gonzalez and Alexia Muñiz had four points each, Makayla Lewis had three points, and Ayla Elizondo and Annette Betancourt each had two points.
The Queens return to action Friday at Uvalde for a 7:30 p.m. matchup.
Del Rio’s next home game will be Tuesday, Dec. 13, at 6:30 p.m. against Carrizo Springs.
