The Queens softball team’s playoff hopes come down to this week.

A three-game winning streak has vaulted the Queens into a tie for fourth place in District 30-6A with one game left to play. Del Rio, 6-5 in district play, is tied with Laredo Alexander as both teams enter the final week of competition for the regular season..

Alexander was Del Rio’s second win in the team’s current streak. They followed that win up with a 15-3 drubbing of Laredo United South Friday in Laredo.

Tonight the Queens host longtime rival, and current district co-leader, Eagle Pass (9-2). The last time these two teams played, Eagle Pass escaped with an 11-8 win. Eagle Pass is riding a four-game win streak and will be looking to capture another district crown, which has become almost a tradition for the Lady Eagles.

Eagle Pass is tied with the Laredo LBJ Lady Wolves, who are hosting United South, the only winless team in the district. Their game begins at 7:30 tonight, so the Lady Wolves will be scoreboard watching regarding the goings-on in Del Rio tonight.

As for the team Del Rio is tied for in the fourth spot, Laredo Alexander, they will face longtime rival Laredo United Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Eagle Pass and LBJ have already claimed a playoff spot. Obviously, each team wants to win their own game and hopes the other team loses, but if the teams remain tied after their games this week, they would be headed towards possibly one more game to determine playoff seeding as they split their regular series.

There’s a possibility of a three-way tie brewing for the fourth spot.

United is currently in third place at 7-4. If Alexander beats United, those two teams would be tied for fourth place and they will have split their regular season games. Del Rio would join that group if they beat Eagle Pass. The Queens are 1-1 this season against Alexander, but 0-2 against United. That could also possibly mean a small tournament to determine the district’s third and fourth seeds.

Tonight’s game between the Queens and Eagle Pass begins at 6 p.m. at the Queens Softball Field. Tickets can be purchased online at https://www.vancoevents.com/us/eventlist/delrioathletics?embed=1
