A week after taking second at the Edgewood Volleyball Tournament, Del Rio added some more hardware to its trophy case this weekend.
The Queens finished third in the Bronze Division at the annual Nita Vannoy Memorial Volleyball Tournament in San Angelo.
It wasn’t an easy start for Del Rio. Competing in Pool 6 along with Blue Ridge, Pecos and Wall, Del Rio went 1-2. The Queens beat Pecos, 25-17, 25-19, but fell to Blue Ridge in three sets, 25-21, 10-25, 18-25; and lost to Wall in straight sets, 20-25, 16-25.
That finish in pool play sent Del Rio to the Bronze Division and a meeting with Monahans. Del Rio picked up the win in three sets, 27-29, 25-21, 25-21.
In the semifinals, Del Rio went up against Odessa High and fell in three sets, 19-25, 25-19, 21-25.
The loss put Del Rio into the third place match against Sonora. Del Rio had its best match of the tournament, sweeping Sonora in two sets, 25-9, 25-13.
Del Rio is now 10-6 on the season.
