SPORTS — Queens volleyball falls to state-ranked Lady Bulldogs

Del Rio’s hopes for an appearance in the volleyball postseason are officially dashed.

The Queens lost to current District 30-6A No. 2 Laredo Alexander Tuesday, 25-5, 25-10, 25-18, to be officially eliminated from playoff contention. The loss drops the Queens to 13-18 on the season and 1-9 in district play. Alexander improves to 24-9 overall and 9-1 in district play.

District leaders Laredo United had the night off Tuesday.

In other district matches, Laredo LBJ defeated Laredo Nixon, 25-13, 29-27, 25-14, to improve to 5-5 in district and hang on to the fourth seed in district play with two matches left to play. Nixon dropped to 1-10 in district.

United South improved to 6-4 with a 25-16, 25-19, 25-11 win over Eagle Pass.

The Queens will host their final home match of the season Saturday when they take on Laredo United South at 1 p.m. at the Carl P. Guys Memorial Gymnasium. Del Rio will wrap up its season Tuesday, Oct. 26, at Eagle Pass at 6 p.m.
