Texas State’s loss is Texas A&M’s gain.
The Del Rio High School grade, and Rams baseball program alumnus, has moved from Texas State to Texas A&M after a stellar freshman season. It’s something of a homecoming for the Cooper family as both his parents – Emily and Bill – are A&M grads.
Cooper’s announcement was made via his official X account less than a week ago. It came after a visit to the school as Cooper joins a talented group of players that’ll join the Aggies out of the transfer portal.
Cooper’s freshman year on the diamond came to an end on the Aggies’ home field during the A&M Regional. Cooper earned the win against former national champion USC but the Bobcats dropped their next two games including one versus his new baseball team.
In that win versus USC, Cooper threw three innings , allowing one run while striking out five. That helped him to a team-high 73 punchouts for the Bobcats on the season.
As a freshman, Cooper had a 4.72 ERA over 66 2/3 innings, amassing a record of 7-3 with five saves in 21 appearances, showing his versatility as both a starter and a reliever.
His best game of the season came May 8 at Arkansas State. He tossed a complete game, allowing two runs on six hits while striking out a season-high 12 batters against just one walk in a 6-2 Texas State win.
Cooper made his mark with the Del Rio Rams baseball program. As a freshman, Cooper was named to the District 30-6A All-District First Team and was named Newcomer of the Year. He also earned second team honors at first base and first team honors as a pitcher his junior year. He was named the team’s MVP that same year.
Aside from his success with the Rams, Cooper also turned heads playing travel baseball. His performances with the Texas Reds and Texas Angels got Cooper even more attention and helped lead him to his former home with Texas State.
Wade wasn’t the only collegiate baseball player in the Cooper household. Older brother Will played for the McMurry War Hawks and was an all-conference selection in 2024 before transferring to Lubbock Christian University prior to the 2025 season.
