Del Rio finished a busy three days of basketball in Fort Stockton with a third place finish in the West Texas Shootout.
The games played six games in three days and split them 3-3, finishing with a win over Presidio to take third overall.
Saturday began for the Rams with a rematch against Lubbock Estacado.
In their first meeting, Estacado ran the Rams out of the gym, but the rematch was a little more balanced. Del Rio ended the first quarter down just 14-9 and kept it a single digit deficit at halftime, 28-19.
Estacado was able to pull away from the Rams in the second half, and while the ending was a 66-53 win for Lubbock, it was a far cry from the 38-point loss the Rams absorbed from the same team Friday.
Nick Rivera led the Rams with 18 points. J.J. Cervantez finished with 11 points, Alessandro Elizondo had nine points, Joel Dominguez had six points, Will Proffit had five points and Jorge Rubio finished with four points.
The loss to Estacado sent the Rams to the third place game against Presidio, which lost to Pebble Hills in its first game Saturday.
The Rams grabbed the lead in the first quarter behind eight points from Alan Dobbins. By halftime, the lead was eight, 32-24, as Elizondo put on a strong performance with 13 first half points including three 3-pointers.
Del Rio didn’t slow down in the second half, outscoring Presidio 29-19 to win the game 61-43.
Elizondo finished with a team-high 17 points while Dobbins finished with 12 points. Cervantez had seven points, Proffit and Rivera each had five points, Corbin Farrar and Rubio each had four points, Joe Villarreal had three points and Dominguez had two points.
The Rams are scheduled to host Carrizo Springs Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Carl P. Guys Memorial Gymnasium. It will be their last game before they begin district play Tuesday, Dec. 21, at Laredo United.
