Instead of enjoying a little time off, the Del Rio Rams basketball team is playing two games this week instead of one.
The Rams are scheduled to travel to New Braunfels Tuesday to face Canyon at 1 p.m. However, Del Rio also learned Monday that their postponed District 30-6A opener at Laredo United would be played Friday.
Del Rio and Laredo United were supposed to play Tuesday, Dec. 21, but due to concerns regarding COVID, the game was postponed. Representatives from both the San Felipe Del Rio CISD and Laredo United ISD met Monday to determine when both teams could play their makeup game, and it was determined Friday would be best.
The games will be played in Del Rio. The sub-varsity teams will play at 11:30 a.m., while the varsity teams are scheduled to tip off at 1 p.m.
Despite the COVID concerns from United ISD, the Longhorns/Rams game was the only game in Laredo to be postponed prior to the Christmas break.
Del Rio hasn’t played a game since defeating Carrizo Springs Dec. 14.
Tickets for Tuesday’s game at New Braunfels Canyon can be purchased online at comal-isd.brushfire.com. Fans are reminded that Canyon High School has a clear bag policy, and bags must not exceed a specific size depending on whether they are large bags (cannot exceed 12” by 6” by 12”) or small bags (cannot exceed 5.5” by 8.5”).
The Rams’ next home game following the United game will be Tuesday, Jan. 4, when they welcome the Laredo Nixon Mustangs to the Carl P. Guys Memorial Gymnasium for a 6 p.m. tilt. Nixon opened its district schedule with a 103-29 walloping of Eagle Pass. According to the Laredo Morning Times, Nixon hit 16 3-pointers in the win
