After rallying to a regulation time draw in their first district match, the Rams decided to take care of business early in their next match.
The Rams took a 1-0 lead at halftime and then tacked on three more goals in the second half to roll to a 4-1 win over Laredo LBJ in front of the home fans at Walter Levermann Ram Stadium and earn three important points in the district standings.
Del Rio got off to a 1-0 lead thanks to a goal by Ely Losoya off an assist by Angel Aldrete. Aldrete nearly made it 2-0 with about three minutes left in the half, but his free kick from just outside the box clanked off the crossbar and out of danger.
But Aldrete got his goal early in the second half as Losoya fed him on the right side and Aldrete fired a shot past the LBJ goalie for a 2-0 Rams lead.
The score remained 2-0 until Luis Estrada hit the back of the net, off an assist from Aldrete, to push the Rams’ lead to 3-0.
Del Rio looked like it would post a shutout, but LBJ was able to turn a Rams turnover into a goal with just over a minute left to play in the match.
But the Rams got the final word as Aldrete got his second goal of the match with 30 seconds left to play when his shot on goal caromed off an LBJ defender trying to clear it and the shot was redirected into the net.
Del Rio’s next home match will be Friday, March 5, when the Rams host Laredo Nixon at 6 p.m.
