SPORTS — Rams, Queens take second at district track meet

It wasn’t the fairytale ending the Rams or Queens track and field teams wanted, but it was still a strong showing a year after the pandemic wiped out their last shot at a district crown.

Both teams finished second in their respective divisions at Thursday’s District 30-6A Track and Field Meet at Laredo’s Shirley Field.

Laredo Alexander won the team title in both divisions of the two-day event. Now the top four qualifiers in each event have qualified for the Area meet in two weeks with a shot to qualify for the Class 6A, Region IV meet at Heroes Stadium in San Antonio on the line.

Del Rio’s top results in each event are as follows.

 

WOMEN’S DIVISION

The Queens won five events including two each from seniors Ozlynn Urias and Sabrina Williams.

Urias won the 1,600 meters and the 3,200 meters while Williams won the 100-meter hurdles and the 300-meter hurdles. Freshman Ariana Erickson also captured a district title, winning the 200 meters.
