Del Rio’s boys soccer team snapped out of its scoreless drought in a big way in its final match of the first half of district play.
The Rams took down the Eagle Pass Eagles 4-1 Feb. 22 in Eagle Pass.
The win moved the Rams into fourth place in District 30-6A. The Rams have 10 points thanks to three wins, one draw and two losses. In district play, wins are worth three points, draws are worth one point and teams can earn an additional point if they win the shootout following the end of regulation play.
Laredo Alexander (4 wins, 3 draws) and Laredo LBJ (4 wins, 2 draws, 1 loss) lead the district standings with 16 points each. Laredo United South is third with 14 points (3 wins, 3 draws, 1 loss) followed by Del Rio.
In the win over Eagle Pass, Alfain Peñaloza had two goals and Joshua Renteria and Roberto Garcia each had one goal. Garcia also had an assist as did Jesus Esponiza and Esteban Saucedo.
The Rams had an open date this weekend. They’ll return to action Wednesday in Laredo at the Student Activity Complex at 7:30 p.m. against Laredo LBJ.
Del Rio’s next home match will be Friday, March 4, when they host the Laredo United Longhorns at 6:30 p.m. at Walter Levermann Ram Stadium.
