SPORTS — Six Del Rio runners earn all-district recognition

Del Rio runners earned several spots on this year’s District 30-6A All-District Cross-Country teams.

Leading the group was senior Emily Torres. Torres, who won the individual girls championship at the district meet in Laredo Oct. 13, was named the District 30-6A MVP. It was her second district championship in three years.

Earning first team honors were seniors Ely Losoya and Jonathan Mendoza and freshmen Keziah Bishop and Reba Salinas.

Both Losoya and Mendoza finished among the top 10 runners overall in the varsity boys race. Losoya was fifth and Mendoza was sixth.

Bishop and Salinas also finished among the top 10 runners in the varsity girls race. Bishop was sixth and Salinas was seventh.

Earning second team honors was senior Alex Rodriguez. Rodriguez was 12th overall at the varsity boys race at the district meet.

Both the Del Rio varsity boys and varsity girls team finished second at the district meet and qualified for the Class 6A, Region IV meet in Corpus Christi this week.
