Texas Thunder Cheer press release
Texas Thunder Cheer, a local cheer team, has had a busy couple of weekends recently competing in San Antonio.
April 27 Texas Thunder Cheer had 3 groups compete in the MCDA Championships at SeaWorld in San Antonio.
There were teams from the valley such as McAllen, Dallas-Ft. Worth area, and the surrounding San Antonio area, said Roni Zambrano, Public Relations representative.
Zambrano said the Gems, comprised of 3 and 4 year-olds, are the mini group of the squads. They went to competition solely as an exhibition and show performance but to everyone’s surprise, they were given a “Superior Performance” and received the “Team Award” by the judges.
TTC’s other 2 groups, the Jewels, 10 girls and competed in the Mini Rec Performance Non-Building (Level 1) division, and the Diamonds, consisting of 24 girls and competed in the Junior Rec Performance (Level 1) division, gave outstanding performances. Both the Jewels and Diamonds received 1st place and the title of “Division Champions” in their categories. Zambrano said they were told that they received “zero marks” which means that they did not have any penalty deductions for their performances.
“To say that these girls were happy when they found out they won is an understatement. There were screams, hugs, and tears of joy from everyone in the TTC organization including the parents,” Zambrano said.
Two weeks later, May 11 and 12, the teams found themselves competing in The Open, held at the Henry B Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio.
Once again, their vehicles were loaded down with trophies when they returned to Del Rio.
Diamonds took 1st place and the Championship at The Open. Girls worked really hard and performed an outstanding routine.
The Jewels received 2nd place in their division. “They learned the modified stunt routine in only 2 weeks,” Zambrano said. “They competed against teams that have been practicing together for over a year. We are all really proud of these girls.
Zambrano said this current cheer group has recently added new members and have only been practicing together for about 6 months. The determination of their coaches and the hard work ethic that these girls have been demonstrating is beyond measure. This organization is a nonprofit group. The coaches do not get paid for anything. They do it for the love of coaching and the satisfaction of seeing how much the girls have learned and improved as cheerleaders.”
Texas Thunder Cheer is owned and operated by Vikki Vozza and volunteer coaches are Krystal Valadez, Krista Maldonado, Perla Marin and Valerie Cardenas.
