The United Civic Organization (UCO) donated two $1,000 checks this week to local charities that help feed Del Rio families.

“They’ve come up short before at Thanksgiving,” said Roberto “Bobby” Fernandez, UCO board member. “As an organization, we couldn’t stand to see this happen, so we made sure to allocate funds to ensure these groups have what they need.”

The donations were presented to Loaves and Fishes, a local nonprofit food pantry that provides meals and groceries to families in need, and St. Vincent de Paul, a faith-based organization that offers food assistance and essential support to struggling households.

“We appreciate the help,” said Margie Carroll, director of Loaves and Fishes. “This is a tough time of year because we are stretched to the limit. This really helps.”
