On January 18, 2025, at approximately 2:05 a.m., a Del Rio Police Department officer observed a silver Dodge truck traveling northbound on the 1200 block of Bedell Avenue.
The officer noticed the vehicle swerving into the outside lane and then correcting itself, followed by swerving into the southbound lane. The truck continued to straddle the center of the roadway, occupying both lanes.
The vehicle then made a left turn toward W. 17th Street, leaving the roadway and nearly colliding with the rear fence of the Del Rio Police Department. The officer activated the patrol unit’s emergency lights and conducted a traffic stop.
Upon contacting the driver, the officer detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from inside the vehicle. The driver was unable to produce a valid driver’s license or proof of insurance. The officer conducted Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, during which the driver exhibited multiple signs of intoxication.
The driver, identified as Teresa J. Ramirez De Fernandez, 52 years old, was placed under arrest for Driving While Intoxicated. During a search, the officer found a one-dollar bill and a clear plastic bag containing a white powdery substance in the driver’s front pant pocket. The substance tested positive for cocaine.
A blood specimen was collected from the driver and submitted for examination. An open alcoholic beverage was also discovered on the passenger seat of the vehicle.
Fernandez was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated with an open container and Possession of a Controlled Substance (Penalty Group 1/1-B, less than one gram). She was transported to the Del Rio Police Department for processing and subsequently transferred to the GEO Correctional Facility, pending magistration.
