Momo’s Coffee opened Saturday on South Main Street with a ribbon-cutting ceremony hosted by the Del Rio Chamber of Commerce.

Momo’s Coffee proprietors, twin sisters Aileen Morales and Ailette Morales, welcomed those attending the ceremony, including their parents, Atzimba and Genaro Morales of Del Rio, other family members, friends, supporters and District I Councilwoman Alexandra Falcon Calderon, District III Councilman Jesus Lopez Jr. and Justice of the Peace Pct. 4 Hilda Castillo Lopez.

Father Mike of St. Joseph Church blessed the new business and afterward, Mary Raney, representing the Del Rio Chamber of Commerce, organized the ribbon cutting at the front of the business, symbolizing its grand opening.

Momo’s Coffee is located at 217 S. Main St. and will be open six days a week. The hours at Momo’s are as follows: 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Momo’s is closed on Wednesdays.

Momo’s Coffee offers a variety of hot and iced coffees, including Japanese cold brew, teas and specialty drinks like iced dirty macha latte and a fresa agua fresca with matcha cold foam, sodas and aguas frescas. The coffee shop also offers pastries, parfaits and a pomegranate salad.

Councilman Lopez said he attended the grand opening ceremony to show his support for a new business in his district.

“This is my district and I like to see the progress, the improvements, the new businesses. I want to see a downtown where people want to walk, instead of just driving through it. It’s new businesses like Momo’s that will help us revitalize the downtown area,” Lopez said.

Calderon is a long-time advocate of downtown and its small businesses.

“First, I’m here representing the city of Del Rio as councilwoman for District III. This isn’t my district, but I’m here to support a new business in town.

“With my other hat of what I do for the community, I’m also here representing the Del Rio Downtown Association, and it’s very, very rewarding to see people starting their dream, because it all starts with a dream and then planning and working to realize it.

“We’ve been working on revitalizing downtown for quite some time, and this is another step, another business working toward that. Also, this is a business being opened by two young women, twins, so I want to support that and support locally-owned small businesses,” Calderon said.
