City of Del Rio Police Department press release
On June 15th, 2023 at approximately 1:40 p.m. a Del Rio Police Department officer was dispatched to the 100 block of Fairway Ave. for a report of child abuse.
Upon arrival, the officer met with Department of Family Protective Services who informed the officer of several calls from concerned residents reporting child abuse. Furthermore, a video was produced to the officer, depicting a disabled child being physically abused with a whip.
Police made contact with the suspect identified as Jonathan Rizo, 37 years of age and the child. The child had multiple non-life-threatening visible injuries. The injuries consisted of redness and bruising throughout the face and body.
All children in the household were temporarily removed and placed in a safe environment, pending further investigation. Jonathan Rizo was arrested and charged with the offense Injury to a child/elderly/disabled.
Jonathan Rizo was transported to the police station for booking and processing.
