The Pop Up DRTTX presented Sunday Pop Up at the Kress Building, a monthly event introducing various vendors selling clothes, food and household goods.
Jocelyne Gonzalez, event organizer, started the Pop Up market in October 2022 with the goal of helping other businesses grow around Del Rio. She said any kind of business or group can sign up and it is a “first come, first serve” basis.
“Hopefully my pop ups will help (businesses) reach their goals for the year,” Gonzales said.
Gonzalez said these pop ups are normally held on Saturdays, and it was the first time they had it take place on a Sunday. There was a free snack bar serving watermelon, and vendors sold food including fresh lemonade and gorditas.
Gonzalez said they had a really good turnout Sunday afternoon. The indoor event had around 35 vendors attend, which included returning businesses and first-time artists.
Angela Cervera and her mother have been returning vendors since the pop up market first started last year. On Sunday they sold gourmet cupcakes and promoted their business Cafe Sol Bakery. Cervera said the Sunday pop up has been a good way to let people know about their new coffee shop Cafe Sol, which will open in fall 2023.
The Sunday Pop Up was the first time for other people to promote themselves and sell their work. Lisa Nielsen, a retired federal park ranger, said it was her first time selling framed pictures of wildlife from around Del Rio and Val Verde County. She said her intention is to sell pictures to highlight conservation and education about nature.
The market lasted from noon to 5:00 p.m., and Gonzalez said she plans to have another pop up market at the Kress Building again on Aug. 5.
