The Brown Plaza Association will have its annual Mexican Independence festival: Viva La Independencia at the historic Brown Plaza beginning Thursday.
Opening Ceremony will start Thursday at 6:30 p.m., which will include performances held by Ballet Folkorico Macuilxochiti. More performances will take place including Grupo Folklorico Cotzal de Acuna at 7 p.m., Del Rio High School Queen City Belles at 8 p.m. and Isabella Sauceda at 7:30 p.m. and 8:10 p.m.
On Friday, El Grito de Dolores La Independencia de Mexico will commence at 9:30 p.m. It is the tribute to the battle cry that launched revolt for Mexican independence. More music will be performed by Bravos Del La Region at 6:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., and Conjunto Cats performing at 9:20 p.m.
The festivities will continue on Saturday with the annual 16 de Septembre parade at 10 a.m. starting on San Felipe Avenue, going down West Garza Street, and ending on Barron Street. Additional performances will continue afterwards with Alto Voltaje Grupo Versatil at 2:30 p.m., Conjunto Nazas de San Pedro, Coahuila at 5:00 p.m., Lucero Del Bravo at 8 p.m., and Masizzo at 10:30 p.m.
Priscilla Andrea Martinez, president of the Brown Plaza Association, said they are excited to have their festivals at the San Felipe plaza after its construction was finished. She said they will have fresh adult refreshments, and groups including the Cinco de Mayo queens will be selling other drinks as well.
All the spots for vendors are sold out for each day and will provide a variety of foods and drinks for adults and kids, and arts and crafts events will be held for children including activities to make toys and jewelry, photo booths and a bouncy castle. DJ Sergio Diaz will also be playing each day at the festival as well.
