H-E-B will be offering its Feast of Sharing to people from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16 at the Del Rio Civic Center.

The company provides a Thanksgiving meal for anyone who shows up at the Civic Center Saturday.

The community-wide event kicks off at 10:30 a.m. Saturday and will start with prayer, the playing of the National Anthem and several short speeches from local dignitaries. While people will be gobbling up turkey on one end of the civic center, the other will offer activities for children, music and dance displays.

A few of the featured performers are Queen City Belles, Casa De La Cultura’s Baile Folklorico, Del Rio Middle School Dance Team as well as a number of school choirs and other performance groups. The 830 Times will release the complete schedule Thursday.

“It’s really an amazing event,” said Luis Leija, Del Rio’s Top Store Leader. “It’s a day H-E-B goes all out to serve our local community, because without our community’s support, we wouldn’t last long.”

H-E-B Feast of Sharing serves more than 340,000 meals at 34 locations throughout Texas and Mexico and began in 1989.

Locally, the company has about 400 volunteers involved and hopes to serve 3,500 meals, Leija said.

Although the event is open to all attendees, it’s part of H-E-B’s Hunger Relief Program, which works year-round to prevent hunger.

Last year, H-E-B’s Hunger Relief Program donated 34 million pounds of food to families in need.

Since 1982, the year the program was founded, H-E-B has donated more than 1 billion pounds of food to 5,500 non-profit organizations in Texas and Mexico.
