Del Rio’s fast-rising William Beckmann brought a touch of the border to late-night TV when he performed on Stephen Colbert’s #LateShowMeMusic series on Monday.
In addition, Beckmann will be performing with Texas icon George Strait Sunday in a benefit.
The Colbert series isn’t broadcast live on the late night show, but the host pushes the performances out to his over 10 million Youtube subscribers and over 28 million followers across the show’s other social media platforms.
The #LateShowMeMusic series showcases a dynamic mix of emerging and established artists with weekly live performances filmed all over the US.
The series has become a key platform for music discovery, featuring genres from country to rock and spotlighting both rising stars and legendary acts. In addition to supporting emerging artists like Beckmann, they’ve featured artists like Chris Stapleton, Depeche Mode and many others.
In the video that Colbert is promoting with Beckmann, the Del Rio native delivered a soulful rendition of “Lonely Over You” from the New Braunfels’ Brauntex Theatre. Since Monday’s appearance, the video appearance has been watched 20,000 times.
It marked Beckmann’s national late-night debut—and possibly the start of something bigger as he supports his Warner Music Nashville album Whiskey Lies & Alibis.
Although the album hasn’t tracked on the Billboard charts, it rose to #61 on the iTunes chart and he’s had several songs going into the Top 10 of the Texas Music Charts.
However, he’s got some big stages ahead of him as well. George Strait has asked him to perform with him Sunday at the Estancia at Thunder Valley in Boerne, Texas. The event supports the Vaqueros del Mar Texas Flood Relief Fund for direct aid to flood victims.
Tables are $1,000 for the dinner that features numerous Texas artists in addition to Beckmann and Strait. For more information, email Vaquerosdm@gmail.com.
