City of Del Rio Police Department press release
On September 6, 2025, at approximately 11:58 p.m., the Del Rio Police Department responded to the 1500 block of North Main Street regarding reports of suspicious male subjects in the area.
The Emergency Communications Division advised responding officers that the individuals were described as wearing camouflage clothing and military-style helmets.
Upon arrival, officers searched the area and later located one male matching the description provided. The subject was identified as Donovan Villarreal, 29 years of age. Villarreal was found carrying a backpack and a shoulder-strapped bag.
A search of the bag revealed multiple baggies containing a white crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine. Officers also recovered a small plastic baggie containing a brown rock-like substance believed to be heroin, several syringes, and a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana.
Villarreal was placed under arrest and transported to the Del Rio Police Department for booking. Subsequent testing of the substances confirmed positive results for methamphetamine, heroin, and marijuana. He was formally charged with Possession of Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1/1-B greater than or equal to 4 grams but less than 200 grams (two counts), and Possession of Marijuana less than two ounces.
Villarreal was later released to the custody of GEO Correctional Facility.
