Question #1: What are your qualifications to serve in the office you are seeking?
My qualifications are very simple: I have been a High School teacher for over 30 years, teaching Government, Economics, World History, Geography, but mostly Psychology. I am the third generation of my family to make Val Verde County my home. I have been asked for years to run for office and now with my upcoming retirement I have the time to truly focus on the job.
Question #2: What is your vision for this office for the next four years?
My vision for the office of County Commissioner is to be a good honest representative of the taxpayers’ money. To make sure that the people of precinct 4 and the people of Val Verde County are represented as well as possible. Not just in an election year but every day, 365 days a year. There are lots of problems in the precinct. I have been driving around precinct 4, and I see it has been neglected for many years. Roads need attention. Some simply need to be rebuilt because they almost don’t exist anymore. There are various drainage problems that need to be addressed.
You can’t only represent the people in election years, and it takes more than making people wait in line for food. The people need more than that. After all it is their money that is being spent. Precinct 4 needs to be cleaned up. The neglect of the current office holder has to stop. Everything that needs to be done will take time, and I believe that now is the time to start.
