NEWS — Man arrested on multiple charges including injury to a child, unlawful restraint and assault on public servant

On April 8, 2026, at approximately 4:36 p.m., an officer with the Del Rio Police Department responded to the 400 block of West 8th Street regarding a welfare concern involving a 5-year-old child with facial injuries.

Upon arrival, officers made contact with the suspect, identified as Francisco Javier Garza, who initially stated the child was not at the residence and provided conflicting information about her whereabouts. Officers later located the child inside the home and observed visible facial injuries.

While officers were on scene, an emergency call was received reporting a disturbance at the same location involving a female being threatened with a handgun and held against her will. Officers immediately detained Garza.

An adult female was located inside the residence and reported she had been held against her will since the previous day. She sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Val Verde Regional Medical Center for evaluation.

The Del Rio Police Department Criminal Investigation Division responded to assist with the investigation.

Garza, 24, was arrested and charged with unlawful restraint (exposing to serious bodily injury), injury to a child and assault family/household member impeding breath.

While in custody, Garza became combative and struck an officer in the face. He was subdued and additionally charged with assault on a public servant.

Garza was transported to the GEO Correctional Facility pending magistration.
