Early voting kicks off in Val Verde County at 7 a.m. Monday morning as voters begin casting ballots in the Joint Primary Runoff Election, which includes several high-profile statewide races and the Republican runoff for Texas Senate District 19.

Early voting will run from Monday, May 18 through Friday, May 22 at the Del Rio Civic Center, located at 1915 Veterans Blvd. Polls will be open daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

According to election information released by Val Verde County, all precincts will vote at the Civic Center during the early voting period.

Election Day is scheduled for Tuesday, May 26, with polling locations varying by precinct.

— Precincts 10, 11, 12 and 13 will vote at the Joe Ramos Center, located at 1105 W. De La Rosa.

— Precincts 20, 21, 22, 23 and 24 will vote at the Del Rio Civic Center, located at 1915 Veterans Blvd.

In addition to statewide races, Republican voters in Val Verde County and across the region will help decide the runoff race for Texas Senate District 19.

Small business owner Marcus Cardenas and U.S. Army veteran Robert Marks Jr. advanced to the Republican runoff after defeating a third candidate during the March 3 primary election. Cardenas led the field with more than 14,600 votes, while Marks received more than 10,500 votes in the district race.

The winner of the Republican runoff will advance to face incumbent Democratic Sen. Roland Gutierrez, who’s held the seat since January of 2021, in the November general election.

Texas voters are also deciding one of the state’s highest-profile Republican runoff races, as incumbent U.S. Sen. John Cornyn faces Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton in the Republican primary runoff for U.S. Senate.

Several statewide judicial and appellate court runoff races are also on ballots across Texas.

Texas primary runoff elections are held when no candidate receives more than 50 percent of the vote during the primary election.
