A train of powerful thunderstorms barreled over Del Rio early today, bringing torrential rains that flooded the San Felipe Creek and low-water crossings throughout the area.
According to the National Weather Service, Del Rio received a total of 3.46 inches of rain between 12:01 a.m. and 8 a.m. today, setting a record for the date.
Del Rio meteorologist Daniel Schreiber provided The 830 Times with rain gauge readings from around the area.
Schreiber said a rain gauge off Frontera Road near the Del Rio Industrial Park recorded a total of 4.25 inches as of 7 a.m. today, a gauge in the Alta Vista area measured 3.45 inches, and a gauge in the Ceniza Hills area recorded 3.05 inches of rain.
Schreiber also reported the San Felipe Creek was flowing at 14.1 feet shortly after 8:15 a.m.
A flash flood warning remains in effect for Del Rio until 5:30 p.m. today, with rain expected throughout the day and into tonight, with reduced chances of rain throughout the day Friday.
