Different Easter themed events will be open to the public this week for families and children to partake in.
The 830 Times has tried to piece together what we’re sure is a partial list, but will hopefully help people as they seek out the ever-elusive golden egg.
Walmart will have its annual Easter Egg Hunt behind its building at 9 a.m. Saturday. The event will continue until 2 p.m. with food trucks including Sharky’s Shaved Ice and various vendors promoting different products such as computers and sports equipment.
Hector Rodriguez, general manager and coach at Walmart, said they will have more than 5,000 eggs for children to find during the hunt. There will also be a scavenger hunt inside the building involving specific Walmart products for people to hunt.
Activities continue in front of Walmart with more activities like games including ring tossing, a cake walk and a coloring event for children at the garden section. Children can also take pictures with the Walmart Easter mascot Hopkins during the week until Sunday.
Another event happening Friday is the Easter Scavenger Hunt, which is a collaboration with multiple businesses including Ashley Homestore, Texas Community Bank and Cripple Creek Steakhouse. Participants will need to visit the separate businesses to collect stamps to put on a location sheet.
In order to win prizes, groups will need to visit Andy Mitchell’s State Farm agency, 206 Western Drive Suite A, to get approval of all the stamps collected. Mitchell said the scavenger hunt was created to give a fun activity for children and their parents to participate in together. Children 12-and-under can participate with their parents’ help.

The first three groups to collect all the required stamps and show them to Mitchell will win an Easter decorated basket. The prizes included items donated by the involved businesses such as gift cards to their establishments.
Another event happening this weekend is the Easter Eggstravagonza created by San Felipe Lions Club president George Oliva. This event is Saturday between 10 a.m. and noon at the Camp Del Rio public park and includes live music, free food and other activities including face panting.
The event will have Easter egg hunts broken into four groups based on ages one-year-old to 12. Oliva said they have more than 8,000 Easter eggs to accommodate the children who participate.
The prizes for the Easter egg hunts are based on a raffle system. Each egg has a ticket with a number connected to a prize for children to win. The prizes include skateboards, scooters, board games and various other toys.
Easter fun began Thursday with the Del Rio Police Department Easter Egg Hunt with Cops. The egg hunt was on the East side of the department building, located at 101 Lowe Drive. Corporal Dulce Gonzales said there were three Easter egg hunts per hour to allow as many families to participate. The police department also had its local mascot Sergeant Nibbles for families to take pictures with.
