Del Rio’s public works department has a new assistant engineer.
City Human Resources Director Mario Garcia presented Eduardo Menchaca to the Del Rio City Council at its March 28 regular meeting.
“It gives me great please to introduce our new assistant city engineer, Mr. Eduardo Menchaca. Mr. Menchaca is a local boy, who graduated from Del Rio High School in 2004,” Garcia told the council.
After graduating from DRHS, Menchaca earned his bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, then completed his master’s degree in manufacturing engineering from Missouri University of Science and Technology in Rolla, Missouri, Garcia said.
“He returned to his home town of Del Rio, where he has been the production engineer with Backer Marathon since 2014, and in his time there, he decreased production time by 10 percent by using lean manufacturing principles, developed a new product line that increased annual sales by 5 percent, established material specifications, created a production design program and developed quality control testing standards, along with many other successes in that company,” Garcia said.
Garcia said Menchaca “is proficient in multiple software programs, including Microsoft Office 365, Solidworks for 3D design and engineering drawings, Laser Nesting software, 3D printing and laser marking software for EzCAD and SAMlight.”
“He is also into critical thinking, problem solving, teamwork and communication,” Garcia said.
“His certificates include being an engineer in training with the Texas Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors, issued in May 2017, Six Sigma White Belt, ISO 9001:2015 Internal Auditor-Southwest Research Institute and Lean Overview, 5S and Process Mapping-Quality Support Group,” Garcia added.
Garcia said Menchaca’s stated goal “as a family man is to remain in Del Rio with his wife and child, along with his parents, who also live here.”
“Mr. Menchaca will add a great deal of value to our staff, and it gives me great pleasure to introduce him to you,” Garcia finished.
When Menchaca stepped to the podium, he said, “I want to thank you for the opportunity as the assistant city engineer, and I’m excited to be on board and get started.”
Mayor Al Arreola congratulated and welcomed Menchaca, adding, “I hope you have a long future with us.”
Arreola’s comments were echoed by the remainder of the council.
